My First Album Review

Week one: Blair ii by Blair

BLAIR MADE ME MISS MY FRIENDS

Happy new year.

It is now 2026 and with every new year comes new goals, resolutions, ambitions or whatever you want to call it.

The only guidelines for this are: the album has to be new to my ears, i have to listen to it in order with no interruptions and write my review no matter how good or bad.

Week one brings us to the first album; Blair ii, Blair. Released in Summer 2024, it’s an album that feels dreamy, collaborative and sits within its own style.

A mix of shoegaze, mid western emo, electronic, experimental hip hop, pop punk, nu metal ballads.

One day we will look back on this sound and be able to call it 2020s-core but for now i’ll call it a genre fusion.

Blair ii already feels nostalgic for a time that we are still in. I listened to this for the first time while walking to ALDI in minus degree weather, then again on the bus home from work and it made me miss my friends despite previously never listening to this album before.

The album is full of personality and blends of sounds that come together to create its own thing. It felt like diving into the melted subconscious of multiple influences.

To be in a room of electric brainstorming and creation.

The feeling of being in a room where everyone is building something together.

Which makes sense in how it was made. Reportedly, Blair created their music in parts, starting with melody lines and growing it from there.

Overall a good album!
